Asian Bone Marrow Donors Urgently Needed

Did you know ...?

  • Tissue types are inherited - patients are most likely to find a match within their own racial or ethnic group.
  • People of color represent only about one quarter of the total volunteer donors on the NMDP Registry.
  • Therefore, those communities of people are less likely than Caucasians to find potentially matched donors.

    The solution?

Register with the National Marrow Donor Program (NMDP) as a possible donor.  Bone marrow registration drives take place frequently throughout the community.  So watch and listen for one in your neighborhood or workplace, or contact one of the locations below for information about upcoming drives.  Registering is quick, easy, and painless - here's what you need to know:

    • You must be 18-60 years old and in good health.
    • You must give consent to be entered on the NMDP registry which is searched nationally.
    • You will need to have your social security number and driver’s license with you.
    • You will be asked to provide names, addresses and phone numbers of two close contacts who do not live with you.
    • You will give a small sample of blood from your finger.

Visit the National Marrow Donation Program (NMDP) website at http://www.marrow.org/ or the Asian American Donor Program at http://www.aadp.org/index.html for more information.
